Speaker Event - Jörg Junghanns (IB 2001)

Joerg Junghanns: "It's all about data"

On Thursday, May 18th, the former HFU student Jörg Junghanns organized on behalf of the IBAA with the topic "Digitalization in international logistics" the evening of numerous interested students. The HFU graduate has been working for the consulting company Accenture for 16 years now. The company supports its customers in over 120 countries and is active in over 40 industries. On behalf of its clients, Accenture is always looking for new ways to maintain their competitiveness in the future.

The speaker event, organized by Business Talks, focused on digitalization, digital media and how these affect logistics processes. "It's all about data." Millions upon millions of data are created at every moment. Nowadays there are more people online than there are people who own a refrigerator. And more people own a smartphone than a toothbrush.

This data will become more and more important in the future and will determine the actions of companies more than ever before. Data is being collected to provide companies with more accurate insights into customer requirements, products, employee satisfaction and supplier processes. Accenture helps its clients to improve the way they handle this so-called "big data" and use it in statistical analyses.

In the past, you could watch young companies grow, but that has changed in recent years. Today, successful companies can be built overnight. Companies such as Uber, Facebook, Alibaba and Airbnb are examples of the fact that even today many companies no longer deal in material products, but rely exclusively on digital media.

But what exactly is digitalisation? Terms such as digital conversion and global communication are often used. This opens up completely new ways and possibilities to work more cost-effectively in the future and thus generate sustainable profits. But companies have to ask themselves where they are at the moment and where they want to be in the future. In logistics, the majority of documentation and payments will soon be handled via digital processes. As a result, current companies will have to rethink their business models and reposition themselves in order to continue making profits. Again the sentence "It's all about data." Telematics, 3D printers and robots linked to data are of great importance for this change. Everything is interconnected. Everything communicates with each other. Everything is going digital.

Business Talks would like to thank Mr. Junghanns and hopes for further successful projects together with the IBAA.
